exploringtech.org Teens eXploring Technology (URBAN TxT) is a tech nonprofit in South Los Angeles that creates tech entrepreneurs and civic leaders through the use of coding and leadership development.
Every summer we recruit the best and brightest minds in South Los Angeles to participate in our Summer Hackaneer Academy. There they learn languages like HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, and Python. During the 15 week summer program the teens break off into teams to build web and/or mobile based products that focus on fixing problems in their communities.
The teams go through ideation, creation, and development, presenting to their fellow program participants and leadership team along the way. On the last day of the program the teams pitch their products to their families, the leadership team and local investors.
URBAN TxT is active year long, offering specialty workshops to program participants and holding community events, like the South LA Hack-A-Thon.
