New Retro is a funk/hip-hop band from College Park MD, performing live in the greater Washington DC region. The core membership of funk (lead vocalist Che Adams, percussionist Jason Stewart, and bassist Enoch Rowe) have been performing together since assembling at the University of Maryland in 2005. The introduction of hip-hop came with the induction of lyricist Chris "I Go By the General" Henri (2010) and producer/lyricist Sam "Samu-L" Chafin (2011), creating a new sound that the band has termed DC Funk. In addition to performing locally at bars and lounges such as Stoney's, 1920 Lounge, and Solly's Tavern, New Retro has also participated in local arts events such as Charm City Fringe Festival, STPP Music Festival, DC Beer Week, the Eddie Kayne Show's "Friday Night Lights" series, and the DJ Clappa Kool Out Mix Showcase.
