Deluxe Flamingos were formed by Mike James and PJ Davy in 2010. Initial studio jams intended to sound like 80s gangster rap without the gangsters or the rap so quickly transformed into a melting pot of influences.
Mogwai to Mr Oizo, Pixies to Prince, PJ and Mike's love of almost any genre has had the biggest impact on their music. What began as an excuse to make Grand Master Flash inspired hip hop vibes developed into something more experimental. A blend of fresh electronics, nostalgia and cinematics give Deluxe Flamingos their highly charged yet dramatic sound. Recording debut material in lounges and boudoirs as a labour of love and enlisting Canadian singer songwriter Aviv and the intensity of Matt Horn on percussion has opened up their capabilities as a band. Melding sequencers with synths, guitars and drums on stage, Deluxe Flamingos energetic mix of techno- funk and alternative rock is already creating a buzz on the South Coast music scene and beyond.
