Keys in the Cities proposes to bring artfully decorated pianos to public spaces in Lansing and East Lansing Michigan for all the public to play. Local artists winning submissions will be paired with an instrument to be painted and then presented to the city in the spring.
The general idea behind "Keys in the Cities" is to develop a new and unique interaction within the communities by using pianos, art and music as a canvas for uniting people and their enjoyment of their local surroundings.
People will benefit by spontaneous, and joyful interactions with the pianos and others. Local merchants will benefit as the gathering of these people attracts more patrons to their establishments. Cities will benefit as visitors find time spent in those locations creates an enjoyable and lasting memory, thus encouraging more visits into town. The unique art will be visually attractive, encouraging greater appreciation of the local art scene within the community.
