Friendship Pasadena Church was founded in September 1893 and has been recognized as one of the oldest congregations in the city of Pasadena. Officially named Friendship Baptist Church, it was the first African American Baptist Church in the city and for many years has had the largest membership. Throughout history, Friendship has played an important religious and civic role in Pasadena. Pastor Lucious W. Smith has pastored Friendship Pasadena Church since 1996.
