The Frederick Collection of Historical Grand Pianos conserves and responsibly restores two and some dozen instruments, ranging from the late 18th century to early in the 20th. In late spring and early fall, the two Music from the Frederick Collection concert series present exceptional pianists, often with their chamber or vocal colleagues, in repertoire closely related to each piano's period and special character. The Historical Piano Concerts take place in the very beautiful acoustic of the Ashburnham Community Church, while more intimate encounters between performers, pianos, and listeners are in the nearby Piano Study Center. We'll post "videos without video" drawn from the Collection's extensive archive of concert and session recordings. These live performances, artist and instrument photos, and relevant texts provide an insightful, visually unhurried perspective on extraordinary music making. The pianos, evoking the voices of the great composer pianists, speak for themselves.
