Athanase, pronounced ATH-an-ouse, is a modern folk-rock band out of Hamilton, ON whose music is “as eternal as their name is unique” (Y-108, CJXY FM). The band blends genres, combining traditional folk, alternative, 50’s rock and roll, and a dash of country to put together a simultaneously energetic and emotional experience. Their influences range far and wide, from folk giants the likes of Jason Isbell, The Decemberists, and Bright Eyes, to Canadian heroes The Tragically Hip, and pop icon Taylor Swift. “What’s awesome about this group is they perform a slow song right before an upbeat song and still have the same amount of people dancing.” – The Music Enthusiast. The group made the most of their newly available time through 2020 and immediately started writing new music, transforming each member’s home into a veritable studio. This prompted the release of their Summer 2020 track, Too Late to Follow, and formed the basis for their 2021 EP, Immortal (unreleased).
