Tref is a Métis rap artist and producer from Vancouver Island, Canada. He began writing raps in 1995 and soon moved to Vancouver, immersing himself in hip-hop culture. He spent years digging for records, writing to instrumentals, and recording mixtapes on a 4-track cassette recorder.
Returning to the Island, he formed the group I.C., taught himself to make beats, and launched a production career. He joined the rap collective Authorized Personnel in 2001,
performing regularly around Vancouver Island. Later, he co-founded Fight in the Fields, performing at major festivals and monthly shows at Victoria’s Lucky Bar. The band released two albums.
After a serious hearing injury in 2014, Tref took a hiatus from music. He returned with the group Warmland, releasing two albums with a third currently underway.
His current focus is Life’s Good Music, a new music collective/record label set to release fresh work in 2025 and 2026.
