Between Worlds play a unique blend of Black music from the diaspora. Drawing on influences as diverse as Robert Glasper and The Clark Sisters, the band defies genre boundaries with a sound that refuses to be pigeonholed.
Originally formed as a four-piece by bandleader Akil Henry - featuring sax, keys, drums and bass - the group has since expanded to include guitar, synths and additional horns. The band members have played alongside renowned artists such as Kokoroko, Kim Burrell, Ghetts, Venna, Bubby Lewis and Rick Leon James.
Following two sold out Pizza Express gigs, Between Worlds appeared on the weekly jazz:refreshed residency in mid 2023, and since then have played Brick Lane Jazz Festival in 2024 and another sold out Pizza Express Live show. With their release of their debut single “In The Free” in October 2024, Between Worlds is just beginning to carve out their journey.
