Marcus Smith is a rapper, singer, songwriter, and filmmaker born and raised in Cleveland, OH. After 15 years in hip-hop bands Black & Broke and SANKURO, Smith is now navigating the music scene as a solo artist. Smith is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist with influences ranging from Gym Class Heroes and Lenny Kravitz to Childish Gambino and Bruno Mars.
In 2021 Smith held a musician residency at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and featured on, multi-platinum rapper, Asher Roth’s album ‘The Greenhouse Effect vol. 3’. In June of 2023 Marcus released his sophomore album, ‘Unique Mélange’. The title is a perfect description of the body of work as Marcus pulls influence from many different genres. The album’s singles include the UK Garage style “She Don’t Care”, the Alternative Hip-Hop “Day After Day”, “Sandwiches” a Hip-Hop/Rock fusion ode to everyone’s favorite lunch food, and “Coppertone” a tragically beautiful blend of Rap/Rock inspired by the murder of Black men and Women circa 2020.
