We started in high school and called ourselves Sass and spent weekends playing all over New England in every high school, college and pub, playing the Rathskeller in Kenmore Square in 1971, Boston, before it became the Rat, finally appearing on the Live at the Rat album. Dana and I went on with Sass after the departure of our drummer, only to find ourselves unexpectedly opening in July 1977 for Bonnie Raitt at the Music Inn, Lenox, MA, to an overwhelmingly positive reaction to our newly written song, Radio. Due to word of mouth the next gig we did at The Club had lines around the block. From there we signed a lopsided deal with a manager, recorded a studio version of Radio, and spent the next 2 years at #1 and top 10 on every Boston radio station. When our greedy manager got blackballed, he sold the rights to our music to Maurice Levy and the Roulette single Radio was out, killing any chance with labels--it was released the same day our equipment was stolen. The rest is rock history.
