Barefoot Opera aims to change perceptions and the experience of opera from the ground up, for both performers and audiences.
Jenny Miller founded the company after many years of working as an opera singer, director and trainer:
“My mother was a dancer which was a big influence for me. I have always felt that a classical singer is three things - an instrumentalist, an actor and a dancer combined. I wanted to create a vehicle for training singers with this philosophy in mind, so have established a team and a company which is Barefoot Opera”.
Expect opera that is fresh, direct and exhilarating - fantastic singing with great movement and drama.
The performers are more likely to be in denim than in diamonds and may appear anywhere from in a cabaret night at The Observer Building, to a local pub or a beautiful landmark venue like St. Mary in the Castle.
Barefoot Opera also conducts training courses at all levels.
