Biography Derek has been playing guitar for over 28 years after falling in love with the instrument at age 11. After years of playing in bands in North Carolina he moved to Atlanta Georgia to attend the Atlanta Institute of Music where he developed a deep love of jazz and improvisational music. He spent 15 years in Georgia playing with a wide variety of groups including a 12-piece funk band, countless jazz combos, R&B, Rock Cover bands and many more. Recently Derek has developed a reputation as a very solid guitar player in Western NC. He spent quite a lot of time performing with a Traditional Country Music project, in which he developed a great appreciation for the guitar masters in that genre. Now he is concentrating on his own Trio project which brings together all of his eclectic tastes into one interesting new style of instrumental music.
