With her unique vocal sound and compelling musicianship, oboist Emily Pailthorpe's versatile career has shown her equally at home as a soloist, orchestral principal, chamber musician, session artist and sought-after teacher. At 17, Emily Pailthorpe became the youngest artist ever to win the Fernand Gillet International Oboe Competition. Emily is a founding member of the London Conchord Ensemble and plays as guest principal with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra. She is in demand as a session artist and can be heard on the Harry Potter films. Her recordings – amongst them English Oboe Concertos with the ECO – have received many accolades. Her recording of the Bach Oboe d’Amore Concerto was named Classic FM’s CD of the month. She premiered Paul Patterson's Phoenix Concerto and Richard Blackford's The Better Angels of Our Nature, both of which were written for her. Emily plays on an oboe by Howarth of London.
