Epifolium caterva is led by Setomaa-based Canadian-Estonian composer Iisak Sulev Andreller and Kaisa Kuslapuu (Lonitseera, LÖYLY Orchestra, 6hunesseq). Together, they breathe new life into traditional Seto folk motifs, reinterpreting them in imaginative and truly original ways. These familiar traditions are masterfully reimagined through a unique lens, weaving together the unexpected textures of cinematic music, jazz, electronica, and acoustic folk into a distinctive, beautiful instrumental tapestry. It’s a soundscape that soothes as much as it surprises and comforts as much as it challenges.
In addition to Iisak on bass and electric guitar, the ensemble features the boldly imaginative piano of Kaisa Kuuslapu, the lyrical, classically shaded violin of Helin Pihlap, the calming warmth of Mart Adermann’s mellow guitars, and the crisp, youthful energy of Oskar Nursi’s jazz-inflected drums.
