The Spotlight Tap Squares are an "open to everyone" group of dancers aged 18+ based at Spotlight Dance Studio in Taunton MA. Founded the year before COVID, we took our name from the six-foot "squares" marked out with tape on the studio floor that kept us socially distanced during the pandemic. Rather than fuss over that as a inconvenience, we embraced this "squaredness" and built physical wooden tap "squares" that we individually painted and then hauled across the street to a public park to film our first tap video; "Hip to Be Square." Every Friday during the school year we meet in two classes--Beginner Tap at 5pm and Intermediate Tap at 7pm--making new friends, enjoying movement and good music, and planning for the next year's video.
