DIPLOMICS is an initiative of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) with the vision of helping to make South Africa a leading player in 'Omics'. It is part of the Department's long-term SARIR programme. Omics refers to the collective technologies used to explore the roles, relationships, and actions of the molecules that make up the cells of an organism. Omics is a collection of advanced scientific fields with demonstrated and enormous opportunity to drive discovery and innovation across many economically essential sectors in biotechnology, and it is the core enabling technology for the bioeconomy as envisioned by the DSI.
