The progressive rock band Straight Light formed in southern Michigan in 1973 and performed actively with various personnel until 1980. In 2007, founding members Bart Garratt and Brent McDonald reformed the band with the idea “to accomplish what we couldn't decades ago, namely, the joy of making music without record company or management intervention dictating what is acceptable for the masses.” The following six year writing collaboration produced over 120 minutes of music. Nine songs were chosen for the initial release, “Love Over Power”. The objective of the album was not to delve thirty years in the past, but to write and record new material and present it as we would today. The heart of Straight Light music is song form. Instrumental sections take the listener on a sonic journey.
