Gabba is the solo project of Manila-based musician Gabba Santiago. Transitioning from a band set-up and scaled dynamics to a solitary project, Gabba adopted his mononym to approach and steer a new direction for his artistic vision, one that allows him to explore all elements of music-making without restriction and with a newfound appreciation. As a project that has been gestating prior to the Manila quarantine, Gabba recontextualizes the merits of isolation, playing with more textures to his signature brisk guitar and drumming styles inspired not just by his music heroes this time, but also harvesting the organic ambience of places he’s been to. The result manifests with the same mettle of handiwork one would expect from his band ventures, if not more individualistic and wholly his.
