The validity of the lineage of Indonesian habaib as descendants of the Prophet Muhammad is being questioned. Are the habibs truly the descendants of the Prophet Muhammad. Habib is a nickname for the Bani Alwi or Ba'alwi of Yemen in Indonesia. Examples include Habib Bahar bin Smith, Habib Rizieq Syihab, Habib Taufiq Assegaf, Habib Rayhan, Habib Mahdi bin Yahya, Habib Usman bin Yahya, Mufti Betawi, etc. They are the Indonesian habaib of Bani Alwi or Ba'alwi. The habibs feel they are descended from the Prophet Muhammad, become arrogant and behave arbitrarily, even uncivilized. They call the native clerics "pig-like critters," "dogs," and "turbaned monkeys." Truly uncivilized behavior. This prompted KH Imadudin Al-Bantani to investigate the lineage of the habibs.
