The Olin C. Robison Concert Hall is an acoustic and architectural gem at the heart of Middlebury College’s Mahaney Arts Center. Constructed in 1992, it was designed and built by Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates (1987–1992). Robison Hall’s stage hosts the Middlebury Performing Arts Series, academic events from the Music and Art History departments, storytelling and speech events, and much more throughout the year. Though the hall is noted for its many post-modern architectural features (its curving hand-carved banister, the William Morris wallpaper in the entry, the single-row balcony that wraps 360 degrees around the hall, the stained glass dormers, and the distinctive, kite-like lighting fixtures, for example), its most impressive feature is its acoustical excellence. The space supports music—chamber and acoustic music in particular—with a beautiful blend and resonance that’s beloved by artists and audiences alike.
