This channel features rare live, mostly UK recordings of shabad gurbani from the late 1970s and early 1980s. They were recorded by my late father, Tarlochan Singh Jagdev and this channel is dedicated to his memory.
The majority of the recordings are from Central Gurdwara in Shepherd's Bush, which is one of the UK's oldest Gurdwaras. Headed by Raagi Bhai Bhagwant Singh, the world's most eminent jathas were invited to Central Gurdwara to take part in weekly Diwaans.
The kirtan is of an era which was pre-digital and pre-commercial. Many of the raagis were trained by way of oral tradition - as shagirds of the great doyens of raag kirtan. The nuances of classical training can be heard in the quality of their presentation.
My dad always shared the recordings he had made. The digital era has facilitated this, allowing us to preserve and share this Eternal Shabad Gurbani.
