Rutu Prisiri is a Afro Surinamese cultural music group, founded in 2011 and settled in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The group is a trademark of the Sabi Yusrefi! Foundation and the management team is formed by Marvin Vers as the bandleader and Beryl Milop as the chairman. The name Rutu Prisiri means, literally translated, 'Pleasure from the roots' and the slogan of the band is 'Acknowledge your roots'. The band produces music of the genre Kaskawi, a mix of Kaseko and Kawina, two African Surinamese musical genres.
With its experienced band members Rutu Prisiri wants to combine various music types from other cultures with its own music. By doing so, the group wants to create an all-round repertoire and build a international network. Main objective of the formation is making Kaskawi music worldwide known. Other objectives are to contribute to the conservation of the African Surinamese cultural and traditional folk music and heritage.
