Dheere Bolo – speak softly if you have something beautiful to say, something that draws in the listener, like magic, like mystery. Dheere Bolo is a storytelling project which hopes to collect everyday stories from everyday Pakistanis while bringing writers, illustrators and publishers together in order to support the production of high quality, original content for children through various media, and in a host of local languages. Conceived by teachers and literacy specialists, the aim of Dheere Bolo, is to create a vast and vibrant library of children’s literature because this is a critical pre-requisite for building a literate society, especially one that shares common experiences. What better way to build empathy than through the written word, through fiction and memoir, through stories that will transport us beyond our disparate realities to the same landscapes, where we may find heroes with the power to unite us in brotherhood and friendship.
