For over three decades, filmmaker Dixon McDowell has worked to complete a feature-length documentary on the life and legacy of celebrated American writer Horton Foote. Since starting the project in 1988, McDowell has gathered over three hours of never-before-seen 16mm film interview footage, featuring Foote himself and a remarkable group of collaborators, family, and admirers. Interviewees include directors Alan Pakula and Arthur Penn, producer Lewis Allen, and actors Robert Duvall, Matthew Broderick, and Steve Hill, along with Foote’s wife Lillian, children Hallie and Horton Foote III, brother John Speed Foote, and other close friends and relatives. Now McDowell is raising funds to finish the film. The final phase includes shooting new interviews, hiring a camera crew, and covering editing, motion graphics, sound design, and color correction.
