Our artistic journey begun with the desire to create worlds through sound and visual media. Viewing sonic textures as directly mirrored in visual textures or vice versa, we began to interpret sound as synesthetically laminated to visual perception.
Our practice draws upon many sources…design, literature, film, visual communication etc. Melissa’s maternal grandmother was Japanese and that comes through in some of our imagery and sound, however we are most influenced from the experiences we have. Combining the habitual familiar with the imagined, there is an element of cosplay in our work. We call this ‘spatial tesseracting’ (or to spatially tesseract), perceiving illusory textures as integrated within the visual/audio spere.
