He's one of the most prominent voice of the european improvisers. His work has been widely acclaimed, and was nominated one of the best five guitar players at the El Intruso - 8th, 9th, 10th and 14th AICP, Musician of the Year 2017 at jazz.pt Magazine, in 2020 was considered one of the most influencial musicians of the 2010's at the renowned Free Jazz Blog Collective.
He is one of the key figures of the portuguese music scene.
Works as a solo performer, plays with his own trio Flora and play in groups like The Monkious, Open Field, In Layers, Frame Trio, in duo with Eve Risser and Luís Vicente, Staub 4tet, Chamber 4, and Fail Better!.
Beside his projects he worked and shared the stage in venues and festivals all around Europe with dozens of different artists and musicians.
Apart from his work as performer, Marcelo is a composer for theatre and films, runs the record label Cipsela, and he's teacher at the Academia de Música CNM.
