Music moves us emotionally and physically. It expresses feelings, tells stories, and preserves memories. Through music, people can speak about conflict, insecurity, inequality, and resilience. By turning experiences into songs, sensitive issues become open for dialogue and important events are documented. Wandering Songs gives artists a platform to share their stories through music and raise awareness about what matters to them, connecting people across cultures.
The project began in 2013 in northern Uganda, a region deeply affected by twenty years of conflict. Over eight months, more than 100 songs and videos were recorded, many reflecting on this history. It later continued in the Netherlands with artists with refugee backgrounds. Sessions also took place in The Gambia (2025), with a return planned, and recently started in Suriname (February–May 2026).
