Guru Smt. Thejaswini Raj, an accomplished professional Bharathanatyam teacher, founded Shiva Jyothi Dance Academy at Mumbai in year 1980 with the goal of preserving & perpetuating the ancient spiritual art form of Bharathanatyam. Thru Bharathanatyam, the institute is committed to imparting cultural, spiritual & devotional awareness, and appreciation for the 5000 year old art. Smt. Thejaswini mastered the Kaattumanar Koil Muthukumaran Pillai style of Bharathanatyam under the guidance of her father, the late Guru Shri S.V. Srinivasan, a direct disciple of Sri. Muthu(k)kumaran Pillai, one of the founding teachers of Kalakshetra style. She continued her training under the tutelage of renowned South Indian gurus in the Pandanallur style. The institute performs in America, Europe & India. Prominent students include Meenakshi Seshadri, Sunanda Nair, Anandi Ramachandran and Rajeshwari Sachdev. The institute's award-winning performances are choreographed by founder Guru Smt. Thejaswini.
