The Water Heroes are a non-profit non-political service delivery organisation that originated in the Maluti-A-Phofung (MAP) municipality of the Free State in South Africa. Following the placement of the MAP municipality under administration in terms of Section 139 of the South African Constitution, and the total collapse of municipal services, the local community began to provide delivery in the areas of water, sanitation, electricity, solid waste removal and road repair services, and the Water Heroes were born.
