The band's name, Marcanus, was inspired not only by the Roman god of war Mars (Marcus), but also by mysteriousness itself (arcanus). The name reflects the programme. Marcanus unites Tribal and Gothic Rock, Middle Ages and Metal to create an extraordinary music and dance project. Hard guitar riffs meet earthy Didgeridoo sounds, Indian drums (tablas) harmonize with the Turkish saz. Together with ethereal melodies and electronic music they build up a powerful wall of sound. In his debut album "silva", the multi-instrumentalist Markus Reiser fulfils his dream and follows his visions and inspirations without restrictions. He brings the musical diversity of different worlds and cultures into harmony, interweaves them with Gothic and Ambient and leads them into the future. Marcanus is supported live by the tribal fusion and gothic bellydance artist Sharadez, who transforms Marcanus' music into mystical choreographies.
