Alhambra was formed to explore and perform the vast treasures of Judeo-Spanish and Middle-Eastern music. Weaving Sephardic stories with melodies that become improvisations in Middle-Eastern modes, ALHAMBRA performs the rhythmic, haunting music of Spain, the Balkans, North Africa and Israel. The ensemble's virtuoso performers on the oud, qanun (trapezoidal zither), nay (ancient vertical flute), dumbek (middle-eastern drum) and shawm, create exciting arrangements of Judeo-Spanish wedding music, love songs, and instrumental dances.
