Sidnē Tavavashe (born Sydney Taivavashe) is an award-winning Zimbabwean filmmaker celebrated for his socially impactful storytelling and his vision for reimagining African cinema for a global audience. Beginning his career at just 15, he has created several acclaimed works, including Through The Night (2013), Seiko (2017 – NAMA Winner), Gonarezhou: The Movie (2020 – Pan African Film Festival Winner), The Story of Nehanda (2021), and Poor Cousins (NAMA Winner). The NAMA Awards (National Arts Merit Awards)—Zimbabwe’s biggest and most prestigious awards honouring excellence in the arts—have repeatedly recognized his contributions to film. Sidnē is currently completing his Master’s degree in Motion Picture Production at AFDA Cape Town and continues to champion African identity, culture, and storytelling on the world stage.
