Hella Jalapeños was born in 2010 after the fall of Trouble In Paradise, when Rubén transitioned from bass to keyboard, inspired by UK piano-pop artists like Lily Allen and Kate Nash. That vision led him to once again team up with Monica, blending soul, motown, and ska with piano-pop production.
While TIP drew from acts like Dance Hall Crashers, RX Bandits, and No Doubt, Hella Jalapeños took a more soulful route—think The Supremes, The Frightnrs, and Olly Murs. “This was the early days of MySpace and music streaming,” Rubén recalls. “I had endless influences at my fingertips, sparking tons of new ideas.”
Despite a rotating roster, the band’s signature style has remained intact. Even with members now living in different states, they continue to create, always pushing their sound forward. Through every evolution, Hella Jalapeños has stayed true to their vision—crafting music that’s as dynamic, heartfelt, and unforgettable as their name.
