Dr. Keri K. Stephens is the George Christian Centennial Professor and Co-Director of the Technology and Information Policy Institute at The University of Texas at Austin. With over 140 peer-reviewed publications, 15 NSF grants, and funding from organizations like TWDB and GLO, her research quantifies how organizations and individuals receive, interpret, and act on hazard risk information. Her work spans flood risk communication with rural and urban communities, empirical study of one of the first community-wide wildfire evacuation drills in the U.S., and investigation of cascading and compounding disaster events where sequential hazards amplify harm to populations. Her current research examines human-AI teaming as a mechanism to extend risk communication reach without sacrificing local relevance or community trust. Dr. Stephens brings the social science data that makes technical hazard systems work for the people they are designed to protect.
