Sinha Dance was founded in 1991 by Roger Sinha, artistic director, choreographer and dancer. This contemporary dance company focuses on the exchange between Eastern and Western cultures.
Roger Sinha was born in London, England, of an Armenian mother and an Indian father. When he was 8 years old, his family moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This newfound culture collided with the two others and this started his quest for his identity which has been the source of his work as an artist .
The histories of Sinha Danse and its creator are linked together. His choreographic journey began with Burning Skin (1992). The warm reception of the piece permitted numerous collaborations and creations. In 1996, Roger Sinha was awarded the Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund to create a work for the Transitions Dance Company at the Laban Centre in London. Multi-award winner, he also received the 2018 Charles-Biddle award and the 2016 Prix de la danse de Montréal's Cultural Diversity in Dance.
