Francis Kofi Akotuah is a traditional drummer from Ghana, West Africa. Born and raised in the melting pot neighborhood of New Town, Francis grew up in an environment bursting with the sights and sounds of Ghana's many ethnic groups. Francis now directs Ghanaian performance ensembles at UCLA and UC Santa Cruz. He also teaches at the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts in Richmond, CA and at institutions around the San Francisco Bay Area.
