Gabriel Espi is a songwriter and producer who’s followed an unusual path through the world of music, taking influence from pop, jazz, hip-hop and música popular Brasileira. As a songwriter he's a strong believer in following sparks of inspiration (melodies, words, ideas) and seeing where they lead. Many Moons, released 18 May 2023, captures Gabriel Espi’s growing voice as a songwriter, performer and producer. Some songs inhabit the thoughts and feelings of day to day existence, while others emotionally engage with the different sides of relationships. A focus on contradictions and contrasts runs through all of this. Unlike the lockdown-era Intimations EP, where Gabriel played everything except for the drums, Many Moons is a hugely collaborative project featuring thirteen musicians. The recording captured a feeling of natural liveness with the rhythm tracks recorded simultaneously, generally without a click track, with other layers recorded on top of this live foundation.
