Rows of golden wheat alongside lanes of gray asphalt...a combine towering over a taxi...kernels transformed into bags of flour instead of bags of popcorn. That was the scene in New York City when the Wheat Foods Council brought a live wheat field, one quarter of an acre in size, full-size combine, functioning mill, bread-baking station and nutrition lab to the South Street Seaport. The Urban Wheat Field Experience, which ran from October 6th through 8th, brought the farm-to-fork journey of Americas most-consumed grain to life educating people about how the wheat plant becomes the foods that help to nourish America and the world.
