James Barrett is a freelance trumpet player based in Osaka Japan. While living in Osaka he has played almost all genres including big bands, jazz combos, R&B, funk, latin, reggae, kayokyoku, and free improvisation. On stage, he has performed with and backed up Satoko Fujii, Gilad Atzmon, Mitsuyoshi Azuma, Sadao Watanabe, Natsuki Tamura, Yumi Hara Cawkwell, Eric Marienthal, Eric Miyashiro, Bobby Shew, Wayne Bergeron, Charito, Tim Hagans, Ingrid Jensen, Brian Lynch, Conrad Herwig, John Fedchock, and Terri Lynne Carrington. He plays in Azalea Jazz Orchestra, Eiichiro Arazaki Big Band, Satoko Fujii Orchestra (Kobe), Planet Bop, and other big bands and ensembles and also has lead his own projects Octopus Space Ferry, RATS IN CARS, and Mononoke Opera. James can be heard on recordings by the Satoko Fujii Orchestra, Out Of Dust, and the free improv unit Kirin To Neko.
