I’m Victoria Batikwalla, a batik fiber artist in the Pacific Northwest. Since 1989, I’ve been making and selling handmade, hand dyed, hand painted clothing - from Grateful Dead parking lots in the 90's to festivals in the 2000's and now from my home studio housed under a Giant Redwood tree on the North Oregon Coast. I’ve always believed there’s more going on beneath the surface - in life, in history, and in art. Here I share what I’ve learned about being a fiber artist, running a handmade business, and staying creative in a world that doesn’t always make sense.
I sign each piece with Genesis 1:16 as a tribute to my Creator. It's quietly hidden inside the garment. I chose to add this after surviving an extreme tragedy in 2021.
