Sant Jordi in New York is a literature festival that celebrate the literatures of all the world’s languages, large and small.
The Sant Jordi Book Fair originated in Catalonia and is celebrated with roses and books. It revolves around the legend of St. George, who killed the dragon to save the daughter of the king. According to the legend, the where the drops of blood fell from the wounded dragon’s wing, a rose bush sprang up. From the 16th century on, lovers would celebrate the occasion by offering a rose to their beloved.
