Samuel J. Brannon is a scholar and musician. He holds degrees in composition from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. He particularly enjoys arranging classic hymn tunes in a modern style. He also holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is an expert in the history of music theory and print culture.
