If you live in Englewood, Back of the Yards, some parts of Pilsen, and East Garfield, among some of the city's poorer neighborhoods, life is not as pleasant as it might be in the rest of the city. There are fewer stores, their prices are higher and they close earlier. There are few restaurants and most don't offer a wide range of cuisine. The police presence is heavy, and street and property crimes, unfortunately, are not uncommon occurrences. Strolling through your neighborhood at night can be a risky proposition. And even sitting outside on your porch or stoop can be dangerous.
