The Toronto Jewish Chorus was founded in September, 2009 by its Artistic Director, Judy Adelman Gershon.
Admission is by audition only; however, previous choir experience and sight-reading of music are not necessary.
Rehearsals occur most Thursday evenings 7:30-9:30, fall, winter and spring at Temple Emanu-El in Toronto (off of Bayview Avenue, between York Mills and Sheppard). Several performances occur throughout the year. Past performance highlights have included: The Toronto Jewish Film Festival, Toronto Jewish Music Week, City Playhouse Theatre, Baycrest, Temple Sinai Congregation, Temple Emanu-El, Mel Lastman Square, and others.
The choir is run on a not-for-profit basis, but is not yet incorporated.
There is currently an annual fee of $200 to participate in the choir; however, the fee is waived for first-time members under 30 years of age and in cases of financial hardship.
