Urban Media Arts (UMA) is an interconnected hub of creativity, dialog and evolving community. Physically located in Malden, MA, its programs and services reach beyond Malden to a global community. This international extention is due in part to the international mix of the Malden community and is of course made possible by the power of the Internet. UMA was born as a cable access tv station, formerly called MATV, Malden's Media Center. It provided community-generated content for the local cable channels: government, public, and education. Though it continues to offer this, UMA is evolving to provide a myriad of media-arts related offerings that connect community, promote civic engagement, and nurture arts and culture in Malden and beyond.
