The new Great Tapestry of Scotland visitor centre is where Scotland's story begins. It is located in Galashiels, at the heart of one of the UK's premier textile regions. Purpose built to house The Great Tapestry of Scotland, the centre is also home to a cafe, a workshop space, a shop and Gallery 1420 (which houses an exciting programme of visiting exhibits). One of the world's largest tapestries and community art projects, The Great Tapestry of Scotland was hand stitched by 1,000 people from every corner of Scotland & brought together by land, sea and air to great global acclaim. The brainchild of the renowned author Alexander McCall-Smith & designed by artist Andrew Crummy & historian Alistair Moffat , the Tapestry tells the people's story of Scotland's rich history, heritage & culture from its formation millions of years BC to present day. It features some of Scotland's most iconic people, places, moments, events & achievements.
