The Center for Contemporary Music (ZfGM) was founded in 2016 at the Leipzig University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" on the initiative of the Rectorate and the associated departments. The 𝘎𝘦𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘵 (present) is the linking point between the past as a whole, including the music of the modern classic and the post war avant-garde, and the open future which is yet to be built. That is much more than what can be implied with the nowadays almost historic notion of New Music (Neue Musik). The Center focuses on the creativity of an active, lively and curious contemporaneity.
