Welcome to the Official Issa Ibrahim Channel.
Issa was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1990 following a marijuana induced psychotic meltdown that culminated in a devastating family tragedy and subsequent 20-year commitment to Creedmoor Psychiatric Center. While inside he painted, wrote and recorded music like his life depended on it. In that cold, uncaring environment Issa used the Arts to process his trauma, understand himself and heal. Since his release in 2009 and into the present Issa acts as tour guide to the nether regions of the mind and soul, publishing his memoir ‘The Hospital Always Wins’ in 2016, recording 20 years of psycho pop music, and making artwork created in Creedmoor’s Living Museum and for Fountain House Gallery. Issa is all about homespun, grassroots art and activism, creating content reflecting his journey in mental health, employing insightful conversation, humor, art and music that the casual viewer, and the entire “mad” community, will resonate with.
