Friends Of is built on collaboration. It's the solo project of Topanga Canyon native Zeke Reed, but it's made possible by the eclectic musicians, filmmakers, and artists who make up the Friends Of Universe.
A classically-trained cellist, Zeke started making his own music while studying neuroscience and philosophy at the University of Virginia. His sound is as diverse as his collaborators, but the vibe is disco cowboy. Zeke blends his love of the West and vintage Americana with pure dance floor euphoria. He even lives in a 1971 Airstream in Topanga and records in an old tool shed overlooking the canyon.
Friends Of's debut album "Contemporary Cowboys of the Canyon" is due out this summer. Recorded between Topanga, LA, and Mexico City, the album blends humor, sincerity, and heartbreak into a sonic journey through disco, house, soul, indie pop, and psych rock. Better hold on to your cowboy hats.
